September Meeting Minutes
EMU Meeting Minutes
September 6, 2011
24 bikes, 37 members present.
The meeting started at approximately 7:30 pm with Neville McNaughton giving a presentation on his experience growing up in New Zealand. With emphasis on motorcycles and the close proximity to Invercargill where Burt Munroe built and tested his record winning Bonneville Indian.
The meeting was called to order by Harlan Hock at 8:00 pm.
Harlan read the previous meetings minutes.
Mark Bosworth gave the Treasurers report that his computer had died but he had made a $60.00 deposit and there was about $1,800 in the account.
Mark also gave the Membership report that there are 88 members and that just under 50% of the members have paid dues that were due in June.
Old Business
Nothing was discussed.
New Business
The club T-shirts are going to be ordered this month so if you want one make sure you sign up on the order form being circulated so we can get a count on how many to order.
(Post meeting note- the shirts are ordered and will be at the next meeting please come and pay and pick them up we don’t want to be carting them around for a couple of months)
Schafley Vintage Bike Nights.
It was reported that they are not very well attended.
Club Ride
Harlan, Dennis and Mel are putting together a club ride for October. The date giving at the meeting was the 15th. (that has been now changed to the 22nd). The meeting place will be the McDonalds just north of the Lewis and Clark Bridge in Alton, IL. Please be there by 9:00 am (with a full tank of gas) and the group will depart at 9:30. The route will be back roads on both side of the Mississippi River using ferries to cross. Two pit stops and lunch is planned at Mel’s Riverdock restaurant in Hardin.
For those who want to break off from the main group Joe Brinkman will be taking the Golden Eagle ferry over to Smart Field for a tour by his father in law of the WWII planes of the Commemorative Air Force.
Future Presentations
Bob Honz will be doing one on Café Racers.
Joe Brinkman will be working on one on Board Track Racers. He is trying to get one out of the Mungenast museum but it does not look like they will let the bikes of the building.
It was reported that the Columbia, IL airport show is coming up but no date was given.
It was discussed that due to the poor acoustics and the loud AC system in the Museum some members are having trouble hearing. A request was made to move the meetings to the Moto Europa showroom. It was voted on and agreed to.
(Post meeting note Moto Europa has agreed to set up the showroom for meetings)
All British Car and Bike Show
Bob from the MG club spoke about the show coming up on Saturday the 17th of September at Creve Coeur Lake park.
Davenport.
Dennis and Melvin reported that there were 11 board track racers present. They especially enjoyed seeing a Pope going around doing 60 mph and he was not the fastest one there.
Sturgis
Mark reported on his trip with club member Eric Miller and his parents. The size of the crowd was down from previous years and that was attributed to the high price of gas. The PC police have taken over banning all displays of public nudity making it a place that you could safely take you 12 year old kid or grandchild.
Springfield Mile
It was reported to be a great race with a very close finish where Chris Carr almost won his last Springfield Mile race (he is retiring) – Willie McCoy won the race, his first Springfield Mile win in many years of racing.
